10 Easy Cleaning Hacks That Are Actually Useful

I like simple solutions.

If something makes a job around the house quicker or easier, it's worth knowing about.

You don't always have time to give the entire house a deep clean. Sometimes you just need a practical way to take care of the little things before they turn into bigger jobs.

Here are 10 easy cleaning hacks you can try with things you may already have around the house.

1. Grab an old toothbrush.
Use it to clean around the threads and grooves of jar lids where a regular cloth can't reach.

2. Use canned air on exhaust fans.
It's an easy way to get dust out of some of those awkward spaces.

3. Try a lemon on chrome fixtures.
Cut a lemon in half and rub it over chrome taps and fixtures.

4. Let steam do some of the microwave cleaning.
Heat a cup of water with lemon juice and baking soda for a few minutes. Then wipe down the inside.

5. Give dull scissors a quick sharpen.
Cutting through aluminum foil can help sharpen the blades.

6. Use ice and coarse salt for narrow containers.
Swirl them around inside to help loosen residue that's difficult to reach by hand.

7. Put the lint roller to work.
It's useful for more than clothes. Try it on fabric lampshades, curtains and throw pillows to pick up dust and pet hair.

8. Keep an old paintbrush around.
A stiff paintbrush works well for getting dirt and debris out of window tracks.

9. Use a dryer sheet for awkward dusting jobs.
Wrap one around a flat sweeper head and use it on baseboards, door frames and the tops of windows.

10. Use a coffee filter on electronics.
A clean coffee filter is a simple option for dusting electronics and TV screens.
